Honey Locust Sangha Care Taking Council Meeting Minutes

Our CTC meeting took place on October 21, 2018 at the Yoga Path from 12:30 – 2:40 pm.
CTC Members present: Mark Watson, Mike McMahon, Colleen Brown, Dave Watts, Mike McGann, Gina Matkin, and Elizabeth Bross.
CTC Members absent: Amanda Zasada

We began with a brief sitting meditation, check in, and the reading of Thay’s “Meditation before Meetings”.

The first agenda item was the reading of Laura Silbernick’s letter of resignation from the Care Taking Council.

The second agenda item had to do with an email received from a sangha member regarding safety issues and disruptions to sangha gatherings.  After a thoughtful dialogue we voted unanimously to keep the door unlocked during sangha, and be very intentional about having a “greeter” who watches the door during sangha. We also discussed training facilitators at sangha and for retreat/DOM Dharma Sharing groups. Gina will bring materials supplied to facilitators of dharma sharing groups at retreats to our next CTC meeting. This will allow the CTC to look closely at what is currently in place to safeguard respectful dialogue during sangha gatherings. Finally, we discussed inviting the bell when exchanges/interactions during Sangha gatherings may feel disrespectful or heated, to allow all to return to our breath and ease.

The Winter DOM will be on Saturday, January 12th at Camp Carol Joy Holling with Sister Terry.  Sister Terry will also be at the Yoga Path on the evenings of Friday, January 11th and Monday, January 14th.

The budget surplus was discussed. The CTC will bring ideas of what to do with the monies to the November CTC meeting, and Steve Brown, Treasurer, will attend the meeting as well.  Donation to the TNH Foundation, Magnolia Grove, or the purchase of a sound system were generated ideas at this time.

The Honey Locust CTC met, discussed, and parted in harmony.
The next CTC meeting will be November 18th, 2018.
